Taste of History: Recipes of Black America cookbook
Completed: Fall 2019 / Category: Layout Design / Project: Individual
A cookbook prototype that educates and celebrates all aspects of black history through food. The objective of this assignment was to understand grid, layout, and typography by recreating a cookbook spread. This included creating a name, cover, introductory paragraph, and personalized recipe of our choice.
Taste of History: Recipes of Black America features a bean pie recipe that has ties to the Nation of Islam and the Civil Rights movement. On the spread, I combined imagery of NOI members and the dessert using sepia tones to invoke a reminiscent feeling of the era. For the cover, I chose an old style kitchen cluttered with pots, pans, and utensils to depict feeding a family for generations.
